In the spirit of the holiday season, MZR is pleased to present the live performance of my poem "Halloween Time." The following poem was composed when I was a student at Bernon Heights Elementary School, probably when I was in the second or third grade. It won some kind of school-wide poetry contest that was being held then, and I and the rest of the winners had to go down to a local radio station and read our poem on-air, which was, needless to say, an interesting experience. This recording is taken from that broadcast, and features myself reading the poem I had penned.

It's Halloween, and the Ghostly Queen,
is sending out monsters all slimy and green.
On the streets are headless goons,
and a wicked witch flies past the moon.
Jack-o-lantern's eyes are bright,
as people run in terror or fright.
A ghost goes and haunts a house,
scaring away a giant mouse.
The werewolves run and bite people they've never met,
causing many horrible deaths.
Vampires bite people on the necks,
a giant frog says "Blech!"
But out comes the sun, the monsters run,
and Halloween is all done.

"Orheculegenias" is not a proper studio follow-up to 2009's "Our Lady Of The Flowers Of The Red Night." Rather, it is a sort of odds and sods collection, or clearing house, of various songs I recorded during 2010, along with a handful from 2009. Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce the rebirth of Boy Destroyer, now composed mainly of the duo Sypha Nadon and Isabelle Ducasse (Ray Pissed no longer performs musically in the band, but still plays an active part in coming up with song titles and planning the artwork). On October 31st, Halloween, Mauve Zone Recordings, in conjunction with Black Dulia Press, will be releasing Grimoire, the new short story collection by James Champagne. A project that has been in development for over a year, this will be the first book released by Mauve Zone Recordings, who up until this point have released only sonic artifacts. It is hoped that with Grimoire, we will begin to see the appearance of other interesting non-musical products. Sypha Nadon ver. 2.0.

After ten years of using the Voyetra Digital Orchestrator for my musical compositions, I have decided to utilize a new program for my sonic endeavors: FL Studio. Thus, the most recent Sypha Nadon album I did earlier this year, "Our Lady of the Flowers of the Red Night," was the final album of mine to be done on Voyetra. At the moment I am using the demo version of FL Studio and familiarizing myself with how it functions, but later on this month I plan to purchase it for real. Some of these initial improvised demos and sonic experiments will be released on Mauve Zone Recordings later on this month, as a documentation and historical data related to the birth of the next era of the Sypha Nadon alchemical experiment. This album of improvised demos and free-form experiments will be entitled "Xperiment XX" (in homage to Wilhelm Reich), and the cover art will be the following:

Oh man, if ever an album was designed for me.... a British society known as "English Heretic" has recently released an album inspired by the rituals carried out by Kenneth Grant's New Isis Lodge from 1955-1962. Entitled "Tales of the New Isis Lodge," it could very well be the first album of music inspired entirely by the writings of Grant. From the website:

"Probably the first Musical inspired by the creative occultism of Kenneth Grant, Tales Of The New Isis Lodge presents 65 minutes of lush and occult exotica issuing from a transplutonic transmitter. Drawing its structure from the ultra decadent and ornate rituals described in Grant's book Hecate's Fountain English Heretic guide you through Egyptian pre-history to the fungi of yuggoth, re-imagine flower power in an indian tantric idiom, describe the workings of Chinese sorcerers, realise the neither-neither hidden within the jump rhythms of Count Basie and invoke Choronzon in the Crimson Desert. "Tales of the New Isis Lodge is a homage to the creative occultism of Kenneth Grant. It is a conscious attempt to fight the ambivalence and lack of imagination which critics of Grant employ in their attacks on his colourful other-world view. More specifically, this release is probably the first Musical based on the rituals of the order that Grant headed between 1955 and 1962 and draws its primary structure from his book "Hecate's Fountain." First published in 1993, "Hecate's Fountain" is a study of what Grant terms Tangenital Tantra- anomalous ricochets that occur during ceremonial magic. Each track has been inspired by one of the ultra decadent, ornate lodge workings that illustrate Grant's attempts to explain these Tantra. The value of the anecdotes for this project is Grant's wondergully choreographic eye- indeed one of his key phrases throughout his work is the term "oneric perichoresis." According to the magical lexicographer E.E. Rehmus, the word perichoresis, bastardised by Machen to explain the interpenetration of strata of reality, shares its etymology with choreography. Most importantly, Grant's work has a deep and often eccentric musicological vein. His rituals are accompanied by soundtracks- Lovecraftian flutes, off-kilter Petro drums, the ghost of Lelia Waddell's violin, "the glissading shawms" of the Drukpa and Nyingmapa Buddhist sects of the Bhutan, teh Jump rhythms of Count Basie, the insectival chatterings of the Old Ones. It is this lush cocktail of occult exotica broadcasting from the Abdominable Plateau of Leng that "Tales of the New Isis Lodge" attempts to capture."

Naturally, I had a huge interest in getting this album. Kenneth Grant is my favorite occultist (and these days, the only occultist I can be bothered to read), and his books have been an endless source of inspiration to me. "Grimoire" is heavily influenced by Grant's occult theories, and it was Grant's theory of "The Mauve Zone" (first mentioned in "Hecate's Fountain") that gave me the name of my netlabel. "Hecate's Fountain" has been my favorite Grant book for years now, mainly because I love reading Grant's descriptions of the rituals carried out by his New Isis Lodge. I don't even care if Grant is making it all up... it's still great writing. So the idea of a group doing an album based on these rituals was very exciting to me.

I got the album in the mail today. First off, the packaging is very clever: the cover is designed to resemble that of "Hecate's Fountain," with a funny illustration of Grant and the logo of the New Isis Lodge, while the back cover replicates Grant's magical sigil. The liner notes give the background material for each track. It appears that the music, words and arrangements were all done by one guy, Andy Sharp, though some violin was provided by a Phil Legard on one track, and another guy named Arild Stromsvag does spoken word on a few songs. The album was recorded in Suffolk, from 2007-2009, and is a very well-done and professional-sounding affair, mixing atmospheric rock music (featuring much cosmic guitar and keyboard) with alien-sounding electronic experimentation (the liner notes mention how the rock aspect is a sly wink at Grant, who railed against the dangers of rock music in his book "Outer Gateways"). Many samples are utilized on the songs, including Boris Karloff's "The Mummy," "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," Count Basie's "Jumping at the Woodside" (one of Kenneth Grant's favorite songs, naturally), Crowley chants, etc. Much of the words are taken from Grant's texts themselves, along with H.P. Lovecraft's "The Fungi From Yuggoth," Crowley's "Book of the Law," an invocation to Nyarlathotep, a 1933 journal on the Cult of the Ku, etc. The tracks "Vevers of the Void," "Secret Organization of the Zotzil," "Rite of Khepra" and "Les Voltigeurs" are particularly well-done, though all of the tracks are great in their own way. It is obvious that the people who created this album did their homework.

The liner notes conclude with a summary of the album itself: " an absurd attempt to cast the chaos of Grant's waking dream as a West End Musical now playing somewhere beneath Soho, in the venereal theatres of Parfaxitas."

Their first release is "Skeletal Gardens", by Matt's band Pacific Blush (he does all the guitar, lead vocals, organ, keyboards, drums, and other instrumentation). To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Sypha Nadon, MZR decided to release three Sypha Nadon albums this year. First there was "Universe C: Beyond", the third volume in the Sypha Nadon anthology series. This was followed by a greatest hits retrospective entitled "The Nightmare Factory". Now, coming hot on the heels of those two releases, MZR is pleased to announce the third album, "Our Lady of the Flowers of the Red Night" [MZR019]. This album, Sypha's first of all-new studio material since "The Black Omen" soundtrack nearly a year and a half ago, features 13 songs, and will be about an hour in length. We hope to release it this coming MOnday. With material inspired by William S. Burroughs' "Cities of the Red Night," Gnostic mythology, and Christian Mysticism, it sounds unlike any Sypha Nadon album ever before conceived. The tracklisting is as follows:

Boy Destroyer RIP

The Boy Destroyer project has been officially terminated as of June 1st, 2009. No more Boy Destroyer songs will be recorded, and likewise no new albums will be released. Also, the Boy Destroyer MySpace page has been removed. This is mainly because we want to start a new MySpace page with that particular e-mail address. On this subject, we can say no more at the present time, other than the Aeon of Horus is well under way, and we no longer feel the need to document it. The Boy Destroyer has grown up into adulthood and moved on. Thank you to anyone who has listened to any of the Boy Destroyer albums over the last two years or so, and we hope the albums will continue to find new fans. But MZR is no longer interested in indulging in anger and negative energy, and it saddens me to say that certain individuals and groups totally misinterpreted the band's message, the imagery associated with the band, and so on. Then again, Throbbing Gristle had the same problem with its use of Nazi imagery, so what can you do but laugh?

New Release: Cat Band Anthology Vol. 4: Off-White

MZR is pleased to announce the official release of the long-awaited fourth volume of the Cat Band Anthology series. Subtitled "Off-White," this 15 track collection includes some of the Cat Band's most trademark tracks, such as multiple versions of "Blue Cat" and "Magic," along with some obscure songs such as "In a Box" and "Bad Luck Song." Cat Band Anthology 3 Update

As noted in the previous entry, the third Cat Band anthology consisted of the Cat Band's Greatest Hits Vol. 1 tape, with the exception of one missing track, track #13, "When We Were Kings." It pleases me to say that the track has turned up and has now been added to the release known as MZR011: Cat Band Anthology 3. As a result, the tracks on said album have been renumbered to reflect this addition. Those who wish to have the now complete album are in luck.

Sometime this month MZR hopes to release the fourth volume of the acclaimed Cat Band anthology series. This release, whose tracklisting will be announced soon, concentrates on material culled from the band's 1999-2001 period, which followed the release of "The Cat Band's Greatest Hits Tape Vol. 1" (which was collected on the third Cat Band anthology release) and involved my youngest brother, Andrew, joining the band as the official drummer (prior to that, my other brothers had used either keyboard drums or unorthodox objects such as coins for percussion). This anthology will contain some of the Cat Band's most classic songs, including "Magic", "Harlem", "Watch Your Back Jack", and perhaps their trademark song, "Blue Cat". It will also feature many rarities and other obscure curiosita.

A fifth (and, at the moment, final) Cat Band anthology will be released sometime over the summer. This will simply be the Cat Band's final "live" show, recorded in 2002.

Prior to that, however, MZR will release an "best of" Sypha Nadon collection, celebrating Sypha Nadon's ten year anniversary. It will be released on June 17, 2009. A new Sypha Nadon album is expected to be released sometime this year.

Boy Destroyer is also planning on returning to the studio sometime soon.

We also eventually hope to finally release Bryce Clayton Eiman's "Sex in Heaven" album sometime over the summer. More details soon.

2009 marks the 10 year anniversary of Sypha Nadon's musical career. To commemorate the occasion, Mauve Zone Recordings hopes to release three special Sypha Nadon albums this year. The first is the third volume of the Sypha Nadon anthology series, entitled Universe C: Beyond. The second, due to be released on June 17, will be a "best of" collection, which will have tracks from every Sypha Nadon album up to this date, as a career retrospective (the tentative title for this album will be "The Nightmare Factory"). Finally, sometime during the Fall/Winter of '09 we hope to release the latest Sypha Nadon studio album, "Funeral Music For Horselover Fat." Hospital

A friend of mine, the talented poet/writer/musician Thomas Moore (who let me release an album of his music on MZR under the name Thomas Moronic) has just put out his second collection of poetry, "Hospital" (following 2008's "Surfaces").

Says Thomas:

I’m happy to announce the release of my new book HOSPITAL. It’s been hovering around for a little while now, so it feels good (and also very strange) to finally send it into the world. HOSPITAL is a collection of 19 poems that I started work on over the summer. I guess anyone who knows what that period was like for me will know that it was perhaps the hardest time of my life so far. Because of that I feel very different to the majority of the new pieces in HOSPITAL than I do to the rest of my writing. In a lot of ways I just feel that I have no distance from the work. While my mother was dying I didn’t know what to do with myself, and I guess in many ways I still don’t. The only thing that I knew I could do during that time, was write. I don’t know whether it helped me work myself out of certain things or if it had no effect at all. I just knew that I didn’t for one second want to stop writing. I wanted to get some things down – I think I felt that I had no choice in a way. I don’t know how I will feel about some of these poems in a few months, in a few years time. I don’t know if I’ll be able to look at them. At the moment, some of them feel too raw to think about. HOSPITAL is a book so close to me right now. This isn’t in any way meant to sound melodramatic or anything like that. I guess I’m just introducing the collection and putting it in some kind of context. I don’t know whatever. Here it is anyway. This is dedicated to the memory of my mother.

Dimension Set

The space-spider overlords of the star known as Mizar (which is both the cosmic home and the extraterrestrial point of origin of Mauve Zone Recordings) have issued to our terrestrial outpost here on Earth the discovery of the so-called "Dimension Set" (or, as a variation, "Dimension Seth"). This dimension, which in some manner is identical to what Kenneth Grant refers to as "The Mauve Zone", is a source of great occult power and also a fountainhead for the so-called Typhonian (or Necronomicon) Gnosis. A good idea of its visual appearance can be provided by consulting a certain stage in the Nintendo DS game known as "Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin" (the stage in question being "The Forgotten City"), a screenshot of which can be found below:

At the moment our established colleague, Frater Tsalal, is projecting himself into Dimension Set and, thus observing the alien sigils, is translating them into human language afterwards. The end result will be a curious document known simply as "Grimoire." This book will contain the secrets of the Sodality of the Holy Shadow and Mauve Zone Recordings, masquerading under the subtle masque of "weird fiction."

Due to this new project (and the fact that Frater Tsalal's human avatar, James Champagne, is planning on getting back to work on his second novel in 2009), Mauve Zone Recordings will be going on temporary hiatus. However, we are always on the lookout for new artists, and of course this blog will be updated with news on a regular basis. And, needless to say, one can still download all the current albums released on the label thus far off our page on the Internet Archive.

Dark Tentacle RIP

The Dark Tentacle website is no more. With all of the computer problems I had, the original files I had for the pages I had up already were lost, thus making it impossible to edit (even though the site remained online). Even more galling, I lost the original HTML NTS pages, so almost all of the documents I had related to the NTS are gone (with the exception of some of the artwork and a few text documents). So I cancelled the site today. Probably for the best, really... trying to run 4 "secret" socities had become kind of a pain in the ass, to be honest. I still want to have an MZR website up one day, but it seems that now is not the time. I'm trying to simplify my life as it is right now. And it kind of makes sense to bring The Dark Tentacle to an end around the same time that the Black Glove storyline on Batman comes to an end.

MZR on temporary hiatus

Due to catastrophic computer problems as of late, Mauve Zone Recordings (and all other organizations linked with The Dark Tentacle) will be going on a temporary hiatus, until I can get a new computer (the crippled one I have now is currently unable to even play sounds). In a way this is almost a blessing as MZR has been eating up much of my time lately, and I've been neglecting my writing, which I hope to get back to now. Hopefully by 2009 MZR will be operational again. In the meantime, the label's blog, webpage, and Internet Archive page are still operational.

We would like to tell our dedicated listeners that recently Mauve Zone Recordings was purchased by the Dark Tentacle. This will not change our present direction or ambitions.

Mauve Zone Recordings is now the musical branch of the Dark Tentacle, just as the Necronomicon Transhumanist Society is the philosophical branch, and the Sodality of the Holy Shadow is the religious branch (more on this later). Coming soon will be Dark Tentacle Publishing, our literature and publications branch, whose purpose will be the distribution of Neo-Goth Narratives.

The upcoming release of the first MZR compilation album will be slightly delayed to the influx of new material we have coming in. Rest assured that this new material will only serve to enhance the listening experience.

Also, in addition to the extensive liner notes, a short story written by James Champagne will accompany the album. This story, called "Mauve Movies: A Neo-Goth Narrative", will be around 20 pages long, and is his first new short story since "Kali Yuga" (which was written in 2006). It is hoped that this fictional work will compliment the sounds on the album itself. At the moment James is only 7 pages into the story, so he is almost half done it. Which also accounts for the delay of the compilation.

Future MZR albums may also be enhanced with prose artifacts and other various objets d'art noir. On this subject, however, we cannot elaborate at the moment.

The art book "Leonora Carrington: Surrealism, Alchemy And Art" is highly recommended, despite its hefty price tag (well, it is an art book, after all). The lover of Max Ernst, Carrington is an accomplished surrealist artist in her own right, and also a novelist. Her art perfectly captures a certain atmosphere that we find evocative and delightful. One of her works ("The Ancestor") can be seen adorning the top of this press release.

New Album: Sypha Nadon: "The Black Omen" soundtrack [MZR012]

MZR is pleased as always to announce the release of a new item. Today, it is Sypha Nadon's "The Black Omen," which is the soundtrack to a non-existant computer game. This is the first full album of Sypha Nadon material since 2006's "Threnody for Zumb Zumb" (which was released on the This Plague of Dreaming netlabel).

From the liner notes:

"In the summer of 1995, I was contacted by a man named Alex Gibson, founder and CEO of Young Gods Studios, a tiny software development company that had formed earlier that year. Though they had yet to release a game, they had many ideas that were innovative and cutting-edge. In particular, they were inspired by another small software development company called Looking Glass Studios, who of course are well known for the Thief and System Shock series. In fact, Young Gods Studios was even based in the same building as Looking Glass Studios. At the time, Young Gods was working on a first person POV Sci-Fi horror/survival game known as “The Black Omen.” It was very much influenced by System Shock, which had come out the previous year to great critical acclaim. However, the Black Omen was to have had a more accessible UI, better graphics, and more action-packed gameplay. They wanted the complexity, atmosphere, and brains of System Shock along with the muscular brawn of Doom. The game was also influenced by films like the Alien series and the Evil Dead series, along with Stephen R. Donaldson’s Gap Cycle novels, along with a dollop of H.P. Lovecraft. I was hired to create the game’s soundtrack. They gave me a list of all the songs they needed for the game, including a main theme, a song for the opening cinema, a game over song, an end credits song, and music for the game itself, the songs that would be heard during the missions. Many of these songs were meant to be background music that was supposed to be looped repeatedly until the player completed the level. Which is why some of them are kind of bare bones. At the time, the music for many games was done using MIDI, so that’s what I used for the Black Omen soundtrack. Every single sound on the soundtrack came via MIDI; no samples of any sorts were used. The music I created was influenced by a lot of things, including Bobby Prince’s music for Doom (which was also all MIDI, with the exception of the game’s sound effects), industrial dance music that was popular in the 90’s (such as Front Line Assembly, Nine Inch Nails, and so on), stuff like that. Sadly, funding for the game ran out at a very late period in the game’s development and it was never officially released. However, bootlegs have been cropping up over the years, being sold at very high prices, mainly on eBay. Too bad, it was a great game; it could have sold well, even though it was very derivative of System Shock."

Sypha Nadon on the radio

This is older news, but on the week of August 9th a Sypha Nadon song ("Sonic Lwa," off the album Threnody for Zumb Zumb) was played as part of the Pinwheels of Your Mind program on WZBC 90.3 FM Newton, along with several other artists from the This Plague of Dreaming netlabel, such as To Repel Ghosts and The Threshold People.

This will be the first of two releases, the next one being "Mono" (due out next month at the time of this announcement). We're very excited (both intellectually & sexually) by this release and we're sure you will be also.

From the liner notes: "Most of my drone I do onto a Yamaha MT120, using a chrome cassette with the Dolby switched to off. I record samples on a Casio SK5 and run them through a distortion pedal, a one-second digital delay (weight: 5 lbs), and a Yamaha R100. Basically, nothing made in the past 15 years -- and yet the sounds I come up with on that rig are soooo fucking cool. On the other hand, I love playing around with GarageBand, especially the preset loops: so quick and so predictable and so very clean. That program accounts for most my dancey material. I personally think that the difference between my get-up and software is the same as that between standard and automatic transmissions. Using a stick, a driver feels like part of the car; one the other hand, it's hard to strip gears with an automatic. Life isn't digital, but information never dies."

MZR is pleased to announce that BOY DESTROYER's debut album has recently passed the 200 download mark. Thanks to anyone reading this who took the time to download and listen to it.A split EP between Sypha Nadon and legendary German noise band Zyklon Vagina will be appearing on MZR in the coming days. This is intended as a stop-gap release, paving the way and wetting the appetites for more ambitious albums in the future... more info coming soon.

It has been decided that TRANS/MISSION (the official MZR news organ) will now be a quarterly periodical (rather than a bi-monthly affair). New dates for its release will be March, June, September, and December.

On the MZR front, changes are in the air. The James Champagne solo album due for release next month has been scrapped, mainly because- after listening to the final masters- it was dubbed to be subpar (at best). Still, two good tracks came out of these sessions ("Worm Food" & "Vow of Violence") and these might appear on a future MZR release, perhaps the compilation album. During these same sessions Boy Destroyer recorded 2 new songs (a cover of TG's "Discipline" & an original track called "Viscous"... the former will appear on the Boy Destroyer EP "Disobey" while the latter will manifest on the afore-mentioned comp.) In regards to Sypha Nadon, there will be no new album this year but possibly one in 2008. However, a third anthology of old material is in the works, and recently SN recorded a new song called "Prelude to Mass Slaughter" which will appear on the MZR comp. (another new SN track will appear on the upcoming This Plague of Dreaming compilation album in the future).

This does not mean that MZR will be inactive, however. I've kicked up production on the release of the Cat Band anthology project. At first, these were to be spread out, but now I plan on releasing all five volumes at once (even though volumes 4-5 haven't been converted to digital format yet). Hopefully this release will appear in late summer/early fall. In addition, a friend of mine is currently hard at work on a double album for MZR... in fact he's locked himself into his closet/recording studio, where he is currently in contact with beings from outer space. I'm very excited about this. recently I was also contacted by another online friend who is sending me some of his music, and when I mentioned I had a netlabel he said I could post it if I wanted, so we'll see... I just love the fact that other people will be providing me with content now, as it takes the pressure off me to be constantly working on music (I'm not feeling very inspired musically at the moment) and gives me more time to work on the Warhol book, which at the moment is my number one priority.

MZR is pleased to announce that we recently passed the 200 download mark. Thank you to anyone who has downloaded any one of our products.

Work is currently underway on the second issue of TRANS/MISSION, the label's official news organ. It should be ready by the end of May. This issue will concentrate on the music of Sypha Nadon. Also, it will include all the other lyrics from the first BOY DESTROYER album that did not appear in the first issue. Plus album reviews, an essay on Michael Bertiaux (which first appeared on the NTS website), and much more! It is hoped that one day issues of TRANS/MISSION can be collected into a large volume, along with press releases and other artwork, but this may not be likely (as they use a lot of pictures, very few of which we have official permission to use).

June will see the release of the first James Champagne solo album. Orginally called "James Champagne 1" then "Imagine the Music", at the moment it has no title. In the interests of duality the first half of the album will be noise while the second half will be more mellow and atmospheric.

When Throbbing Gristle formed Industrial Records back in 1976 as a vehicle for distributing their music, they eventually went about creating an official newsletter of sorts, which they called "Industrial News." All in all, it was published once a year, usually in the Fall, and there were a total of three (though a fourth one was included with the TG24 box set). Likewise, William Bennett's Come Organization put out it's own newsletter, "Kata," every two months or so, and in that case there were 20 issues.

Following their example, I have decided that my netlabel Mauve Zone Recordings should also have it's very own newsletter as a way to get information to the fans. The name of this newsletter is "TRANS/MISSION" and I hope to have a new issue out every 2 months or so. The issues (most of which will run to around 25-30 pages) will be posted on the MZR page of my Necronomicon Transhumanism website, in the following link:

There are three seperate files to choose from: MS Works Word Processor, MS Word, and Rich Text Format. The latter two programs don't work on my computer, so I don't know if they look any different from the Works Word Processor one, which is what I created it on. Let me know if you encounter any difficulties downloading/opening it.Issue 1 is mostly devoted to Boy Destroyer, as that's currently the only release on my label. Issue 2 (due out in May) will mostly revolve around my Sypha Nadon project. It's 23 pages long.

MZR001: BOY DESTROYER: "RISE HORUS RISE"

Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce the release of its first digital bullet, "Rise Horus Rise", which is in turn the grand debut of noise supergroup BOY DESTROYER. This supergroup is composed of the following individuals:Ray Pissed (Vocals and Lyrics). The lead singer for underground punk rock band Ricin, which has released many bootleg singles and is currently signed to Fireball Records, where they are recording their debut album, "Drunk on the President's Blood." Their live shows are legendary.Isabelle Ducasse (Noise Guitar/Feedback). Isabelle Ducasse is best known as a "Feedback Artist", world-renowned in the avant-garde community for her sonic sculptures of noise. Speaking of noise, she's also the noise guitarist for the noise-drone band Deathdrone, who last year released the now-classic (and impossible to find) EP "Drone Moon Headache." Sypha Nadon (Rhythms). The cryptic Sypha Nadon is best known for his releases on the esoteric This Plague of Dreaming netlabel, namely the albums "11 Chants for Russolo!" and the more recent "Threnody for Zumb Zumb" (not to mention the "Enter Horus" EP). Currently planning an EP for late 2007/early 2008.

Says Ray Pissed: "I had to change my vocal style a bit for this one, as it's the first noise record I've ever sang on. It was an interesting experience, to say the least. Seriously, though, this is some intense shit. Hardcore with a capital H. Total punk rock, just not rock & roll."

Says Sypha Nadon: "The edge or stick some crush see baby not insect."

James Champagne (who produced, recorded, and mastered the album), was lucky enough to score a brief interview with Mauve Zone Recordings founder Arthur Limbo, which can be read below:

JC: Your netlabel, called Mauve Zone Recordings, just released its first product, "Rise Horus Rise," by the noise group Boy Destroyer. What made you decide to make this your first release?

AL: When I first started MZR I thought it would be cool if the first release would be an unabashed noise album.

JC: How did Boy Destroyer come to be? I assume the concept was yours?

AL: Yes. A few months ago I was flipping through some of the old katas put out by the Come Organization back in the early 80's and I got to the one where they talked about how Philip Best from Consumer Electronics and Kevin Tompkins from Sutcliffe Jugend had left their bands to merge with William Bennett's Whitehouse, to create a "super powerful" group. I had the brainstorm that it would be cool if I managed to get three of the big names from today's noise scene and convinced them to do an album together. So I contacted Ray Pissed, Sypha Nadon, and Isabelle Ducasse, and they all agreed.

JC: You also gave the band its name. Why Boy Destroyer?

AL: The inspiration for the name came from this magazine from Sweden called "Destroyer", which is a magazine celebrating the beauty of teenage boys. They just released their third issue last month, actually. Destroyer is such a cool word and seemed to fit the band's music, so I chose to call it Boy Destroyer. Having said that, despite the origin of the band's name, it's not about destroying boys as one would assume. It's more a reference to Horus in his conquering child form, juxtaposed with William S. Burroughs "Wild Boys" concept.

JC: Do you want to comment on the album's artwork?

AL: The photo on the front cover was taken by Larry Clark. I think it's from his book "Teenage Lust" or something like that. I don't know who took the photo on the back cover, but we got it off Dennis Cooper's blog. He said it was taken by some weird Russian photographer or something like that. I think both photos pretty much sum up what the music is trying to say.

JC: Well, despite the fact that this is a noise supergroup I can't help but notice that Isabelle Ducasse isn't on as many of the tracks as Sypha and Ray Pissed. In fact, she isn't on the first three tracks at all, same for tracks 7 & 9.

AL: Due to her busy schedule with Deathdrone her studio time with Boy Destroyer was sadly limited. Hopefully she'll do more in the follow-up, whenever that will be. However, she is the only member of the group to get her own solo track, the feedback solo that is track 6, "Rise Horus Rise." The title song, in fact.

JC: Regarding the album intro "Welcome to the Machine." Is that a reference to Pink Floyd?

AL: No, but I can see why some would think that. It's actually a reference to a line spoken by Mr. Quimper in Grant Morrison's "The Invisibles." The title for "War" was inspired by the U2 album of the same name (I've always loved that album cover). The lyrics and vocal stylings of "We Hate You Conservatives" was inspired by the old Throbbing Gristle single "We Hate You (Little Girls)."

JC: What other releases are in the works at MZR?

AL: This Spring we'll be putting out an anthology of never-before-heard Sypha Nadon material, plus the Ross Gellar EP. This summer we hope to release your first solo album. What's it going to be called again?

JC: "James Champagne 1."

AL: Right.

Mauve Zone Recordings is now an official netlabel, though at the moment there's zero content. Hopefully this will be fixed at the end of the month when the Boy Destroyer album will make it's grand debut. Actually, that album isn't even done yet, but it's almost finished. I'm just waiting for Ray to go into the studio next week and record the vocals for one last song. In the meanwhile, Arthur Limbo has chosen my LJ as the official mouthpiece for Mauve Zone, so all news about upcoming releases will be heard here first.
