OUT NOW: Sypha NADON: Pleasant Songs (LP) [MZR046]

Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce the arrival of our 46th release, Pleasant Songs by Sypha Nadon. This LP, the first one of all-new Sypha Nadon studio material since 2015's Monolith album, is an anomaly in the SN discography in that, for the first time, the majority of the songs on the album contain vocals (around 75% of the album, to be precise), with only a mere 3 instrumentals. It also features a rare example of Sypha Nadon covering the music of another, in this case the song "Rain of Ruin" by Suicide. On a more familiar note, much like the 2008 SN album The Black Omen, this album was created entirely with MIDI (save for the vocals).

Track listing:

1. You Lost Her (2:54)
2. The Devil's Shrine (4:55)
3. Mockery of a Man (3:47)
4. Rain of Ruin (5:02)
5. Gray Day (3:18)
6. Monstertheism (4:13)
7. The Red King [Instrumental] (4:19)
8. His Voice (1:24)
9. Verdensur (The World-Clock) [Instrumental] (4:03)
10. My Life is a Horror Movie (3:57)
11. State of the Nation (3:17)
12. Aphex Twink [Instrumental] (4:51)

Total Running Time: 46:02

As always it may be listened to (or downloaded) for free at the MZR Internet Archive page:

One thing that I think differentiates this SN album from all the ones that have come before (aside from the shorter than usual track lengths) is it's the first one where the majority of the tracks have vocals (indeed, there are only 3 instrumentals). Over the years I've written out lyrics/melodies for a number of songs, but very rarely have I bothered to record them, but this time around I wanted to challenge myself a bit and I felt the time was right to go about doing that (and some of these lyrics go back a long ways: "Gray Day" was written around 2007-2008). The album will also have a cover song (another thing I don't do very often), in this case a cover of Suicide's "Rain of Ruin." Also, like FIRST REPORT, THE BLACK OMEN album (and the Death Head Moth's SECOND REPORT), the album is entirely MIDI, with the exception (obviously) of the vocals.
