OUT NOW: SYPHA NADON: MONOLITH (LP) [MZR034]

Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce our latest release: Monolith, the new Sypha Nadon studio album (and the follow-up to last year's Canadian Atheist).

Originally Monolith was to have been a 23 track double album over 100 minutes long. We eventually decided it worked best as a single LP and trimmed it to 13 tracks. Maybe one day we’ll release the other 10, but for now, we think it’s a stronger effort as one album (and it must be stressed that Sypha agreed with us on this point: in fact, it was his idea to cut it down to one album at the 11th hour).
As always, it may be listened to and downloaded for free from our Internet Archive page:

Update on the Sypha Nadon double album + cover art

Work is still progressing on MZR034, the upcoming Sypha Nadon double album (which I've recently, as in today, decided to rename Monolith). The music aspect of it is almost done, I just need to finalize the tracklisting, write the liner notes, and a few other minor things... I hope to have it done with this month but who knows? After this I plan on putting the SN project on indefinite hiatus: between the archival reissue project earlier this year and now this double album of new material, I think I've tapped the well for all its worth, and seeing as I started the SN project with the idea of doing a double album all the way back in the year 2000, this seems like a fitting capstone (and to be honest, it's become a distraction from writing, or maybe an excuse not to write). Anyway it will consist of 23 tracks (12 on the left disc and 11 on the right disc, just like NIN's The Fragile) and I expect it to be somewhere between 95-100 minutes long.

Sypha Nadon Update

Work is currently underway on the new (and currently untitled) Sypha Nadon album, which will most likely be a double album/concept album, similar to The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails. The creation of new songs for this project began as far back as December 2014 and continues onward. At the moment a working demo of the first disc has been completed, though many of the songs on it still need a lot of work. Some track titles include "Dark Enlightenment," "300,000,000," "The Weak," "One Thousand Years," "Ritual," "Owls With a Thousand Eyes," "Village 685," "Xibalba Chant," "Airstrip One," "The Great Annihilator," "The Drowned God," and "Collapse of the West." Like last year's Canadian Atheist album, this new album will feature a few songs with vocals/lyrics, though far less in the way of sampling.

More details to follow.

This 28 song, 2 disc album collects 2003's 11 track "Society of the Spectacle" album (including the classic songs "Enter Horus," "Machine Elves," "Nibelungen" and others), while disc 2 collects 17 rarities from the band's 2003-2009 period, including the long out-of-print "Esoteric Excretion"... EP of 2004. Exhaustive liner notes (complete with lyrics and track information) are included. It may be downloaded/listened to for free here:

Following this release, MZR will be taking a small hiatus, though we hope to release new SN recordings later on this year, possibly in the autumn or winter months of 2015. Also, there's a possibility that the long out-of-print Boy Destroyer albums may be reissued at some point, though this is still a source of debate amongst the Secret Chiefs. Stay tuned...

Coming Soon: Sypha Nadon: Society of the Spectacle [MZR033]

Coming in May from Mauve Zone Recordings: Sypha Nadon: Society of the Spectacle [MZR033]
This 28 track, 2 disc anthology will mark the 5th and final release of the SN archival series of 2015.
Disc 1 contains the "Society of the Spectacle" album of 2003. A number of tracks off it have previously appeared on releases from the Mauve Zone Recordings/This Plague of Dreaming netlabel, but I wanted them to be heard here in their original context.

Disc 2 is an odds & ends collection of material that runs the gamut from 2003-2009, almost all of which have never been released (save for the "Esoteric Excretion" EP of 2004). Some highlights include an unused song from the "Threnody for Zumb Zumb" sessions ("Kumina Disco"), two unused songs from the "Our Lady of the Flowers of the Red Night" sessions ("This Great Satanic Hologram" and "Alone in the Garden of Gethsemane"), and "Flowers of Evil," a dramatic rendition of one of Baudelaire's poems set to music.

With the release of this album, I think it would be safe to say that probably around 90% of all the songs I recorded under the SN banner prior to 2005 would now be available to the public in one capacity or another (2005 being the year of the first "official" SN album releases). So everything would be up to date.

Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Sypha Nadon's Decadence [MZR031], a previously cassette-only release/concept album recorded in the summer of 2001, and the 3rd of our Sypha Nadon archival releases. It can be downloaded/listened to for free here:

COMING SOON FROM MZR: SYPHA NADON: DECADENCE [MZR031]

Coming this month from Mauve Zone Recordings: Sypha Nadon: Decadence
[MZR031]. This reissue will collect the entirety of the Decadence cassette tape recorded in the spring of 2001. Along with the 13 tracks that made up the Decadence tape, it will also include 6 bonus tracks, including the original version of the song "I'm Insane" ( a song that I re-did for last year's Canadian Atheist LP), and the controversial "Bulldozer" (the first SN song to ever be heard by people outside my house: read the reaction to it here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=680)

April will hopefully see the release of the 4th SN reissue, Gap, which collects the Gap album of 2002 (the first SN album ever burnt to CD-R). And in May there will be a 5th reissue album, Society of the Spectacle. That one will collect some rarities from my 2003-2004 period. After that, the bulk of SN's pre-2005 This Plague of Dreaming/Mauve Zone Recordings songs would be available online, and I'd be able to get back to work on new music (in fact, I'm hard at work on new music now, but am delaying its release until I get this reissue series out of the way).

OUT NOW: Sypha Nadon: Distant [MZR030]

Mauve Zone Recordings is pleased to announce the release of Sypha Nadon's Distant [MZR030], a previously cassette-only release/concept album recorded in August 2000, and the 2nd of our Sypha Nadon archival releases. Though most of the tracks on here appeared on 2007's Universe A: Distant anthology, I re-recorded them for this reissue and there's a noticeable improvement in sound quality/clarity. Included as bonus tracks is the never released "Where Are The Young Men?", along with digital recordings of 5 of the tracks off the Distant tape. It can be downloaded/listened to for free here:
https://archive.org/details/MZR030

Coming soon from MZR: the last 3 volumes in the SN archival series:

In March: Sypha Nadon: Decadence [MZR031] recordings from 2001
In April: Sypha Nadon: Gap [MZR032] recordings from 2001-2002

Coming Soon from MZR: Sypha Nadon: Distant [MZR030]

Coming next month from Mauve Zone Recordings: Sypha Nadon: Distant [MZR030]. This reissue collects the entirety of the Distant cassette tape recorded during the summer of 2000: although a version of that tape was previously released on the Universe A: Distant anthology of 2007, for this reissue they've been re-recorded with better sound quality/clarity. Included as bonus tracks is the never released "Where Are The Young Men?", along with digital recordings of 5 of the tracks off the "Distant" tape. March will hopefully see the release of the 3rd SN reissue, which will be the Decadence tape of 2001. In April MZR will release the 4th SN reissue, Gap, which collects the Gap album of 2002. And in May there's a chance that a 5th reissue album, Society of the Spectacle, may be released. That one would collect some rarities from my 2003-2004 period. After that, the bulk of SN's pre-2005 This Plague of Dreaming/Mauve Zone Recordings songs would be available online, and I'd be able to get back to work on new music. More details to follow.
